Copying the system from one HD to another

i did that recently. Hooked up anther drive, essentially used "cp -a" from
one root to the other, fix up grub.conf and off you go. It's best to boot
with another OS, or use something like knoppix to do this and have the
old drive hooked up via USB2 or Firewire.
