is what the utility calls it. As for being safe, when you are
using a tool provided by the people that make the drive, that
is designed to test/repair their drive, you would hope that it
is safe. (But you can never tell.)

In any case, if the choice is to run the utility, or toss the
drive, then you don't have much to lose by trying it. I tend
to use a drive 'fixed' this way for test systems, and not for
anything I have to depend on...
