Ummm... At least for me, all the 29XXX and 39XXX that I used, work just
fine under FC4 x86_64 and RHEL/CentOS x86_64.
The aic7xxx and aic79xx are fully open source, and AFAICT are fully
supposed.
Don't know much about Adaptec's RAID controllers.
Another good option is LSI. Both their normal (read: non-RAID) and their
MegaRAID cards are well supported.
