Problem running FC-4 rescue CD

I had a problem with my desktop,
and needed to edit /etc/fstab .
I put in the FC-4 rescue CD,
which booted fine,
but then said it could not find FC-4 on any CD drive.
(FC-4 CD#1 said the same.)

I do not understand how Fedora can fail to find the CD,
when it has already been reading it?

[In the end I had to use Knoppix.]
