Udev problem

Did anyone experience a graphic problem after updating udev to the
latest package. I have a compaq laptop and after I updated my udev
whole login screen and everything else seem to misplace. Then I force
installed the udev package came with the cd and the problem was
solved. Unfortunately the new kernel requires the latest udev package.
Has any one experienced this problem? Thanks
