I get this a lot. Building a kernel for your own box, and building
one that has to work on as much hardware as possible is a completely
different problem. Despite my best efforts, there are *still* always
regressions when I push updates, but I do what I can to reduce that,
by not rebasing if I know it's going to break a large subset of users.
To use just one example, 2.6.15 needs a new udev, or synaptics touchpads
stop working. Even though the 2.6.15 update in updates-testing works
just fine for a majority of users, we can't ship that until all the
pieces are in place.
