I think getting the mail directed toward those on a one to one basis 
instead of a public forum allowed expression that an individual would 
hold back when the postings are public.

To summarize:
No I don't plan on donating money. Yes, I will take money coming my way. 
No, tax status would not influence me to either donate or discourage me 
from donating to the foundation. Yes, the presence and active 
participation of Red Hat developers  influences positively my desire to 
participate in the Fedora Project.
