No /etc/init.d/alsa? How to restart alsa services?

Don't know about that, but if you are having problems getting your desired 
levels from booting up, just put 'alsactl restore' into /etc/rc.d/rc.local, 
make sure you have set everything as you want, and then do a 'alsactl save'.  
The settings you have saved will be your defaults.
