okay, i did that and i found the following, when i tried to use it as
root or user, it said something about "failed to open device
'artec_eplus48u:libusb:001:007': invalid argument.

now i found the configuration file you mentioned, and briefly looked at
it, i don't understand what you were saying about permissions, i'm going
to attempt looking at the conf file again though and see if i need to
put some lines in there.

[user ~]$ sane-find-scanner

  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make
sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.
  # Also you need support for SCSI Generic (sg) in your operating system.
  # If using Linux, try "modprobe sg".

found USB scanner (vendor=0x05d8, product=0x4003, chip=GT-6816) at
libusb:001:007
  # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be
supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

  # Not checking for parallel port scanners.

  # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
  # can't be detected by this program.

  # You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. Once you
  # found the scanner devices, be sure to adjust access permissions as
  # necessary.
[user ~]$ scanimage -L
device `artec_eplus48u:libusb:001:007' is a Artec E+ 48U USB flatbed scanner
