YOU ARE THE MAN!! i was stuck, and then i read the feedback (did the 
debug thing), and it read there was a directory that it wanted thtat 
wasn't there. i had merely put the usb file in /usr/share/sane, i didn't 
realize i was supposed to put that

/artec_eplus48u/

on there too!!!   sweet!!!
