Kernel panic

Okay, I've been through this before with FC4.  I just upgraded a system 
from Fc2 to FC5 and the upgrade went just fine until I rebooted.  Now, 
I'm getting the dreaded

Kernel panic - attempt to kill init

message on boot.  There's also a bizarre message saying there was no 
disk in /dev/hdd?  What's the deal here?
