Hi Paul!

I choose SW by looking at the needs of the project.  For example at one
radio station I worked at I chose the computer based music system based on a
needed music format and a provider with a very good industry track record.
When it came time to replace the commercial delivery system I replaced our
"cart" (kind of like an 8 track tape without the pucks) based system with a
computer based system which had good known results integrating with our
music delivery system and our "traffic" (commercial purchase, production,
delivery, and billing) system.

Please make a list of what you need and want to do and then look at all of
the available SW to see who can best meet your needs at a price you can
afford.

If it is true that you have money, the time to do errands, the time and
skill to hack, and could indeed solve the interface problem with X please
consider that you are indeed the man to do so.
