Don't know if this helps, but I have the following rpm's and mplayer is 
working fine.

mplayer-1.0-0.64.pre8.lvn6
x264-0.0.0-0.3.20061023.fc6 (provides /usr/lib/libx264.so.54)

For your reference my ffmpeg is from:
ffmpeg-0.4.9-0.25.20061030.lvn6
