FC6 sendmail does not send mails from/to local users - solved

My /etc/hosts didn't contain a line like 
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain

although it did contain the IP6 line
::1     localhost.localdomain   localhost

Is it just my system, remember it was a clean install, or is it a bug?
