internet access via proxy server

You need to tell yum about the proxy. Insert the below line in the main 
section of /etc/yum.conf

proxy=http://<Proxy Address>:<proxy port>


This does not work if you are using an authenticated proxy. Infact, I 
have never been able to make yum work with an authenticated proxy.
