Are you using FC5?  What is the output of "which python", "python -V",
and "ls -FAl /usr/bin/python" ?  (sans quotes)

$ which python
/usr/bin/python

$ python -V
Python 2.4.3

$ ls -FAl /usr/bin/python
- -rwxr-xr-x 2 root root 5584 Jun 13 11:46 /usr/bin/python*
