There is a new package for webcam modules. And, the damn thing works!!!!
I have the latest kernel, so the package made without a burp in the
barrel.

   It made and installed like a charm. I cranked up Kopete and saw my
grinning self using the cheapo Micro. Then I plugged in a more expensive
 Logitech that is not listed as supported, but it fired up and got much
     better resolution. Guys, you can now take those webcams out of
  mothballs. Now to find a smoking jacket and briar wood pipe. This is
