Well, since no one has mentioned it yet - pulling the wire off the motherboard speaker header works too (probably works better in a desktop system than a laptop though :-). Heck, my totally silent Zalman TNN500AF case doesn't even have a speaker to connect to the motherboard (when they say totally silent, they mean it :-).
