unable to mount usb

I'm somewhat of a newbie to linux. Since the last kernel update from
1-33 to 1-41 I am unable to mount and unmount my usb drive. I can
still mount/unmount as root, but I can no longer mount/unmount the
drive as user since the last kernel update, as mounting the drive as
root is somewhat of a pain. Has anyone else experienced this or know
of a fix?
