Thanks Everyone;
Your replies gave me a good overview and I picked up enough terminology
to do an effective search in Wikipedia (e.g. Power On reset; EEPROM;
etc.) I have a brand new mother board so I will check the
specifications on that. I will google over the next few days and see
what I can get together in the way of combining notes from cut and
pastes.
