Does it do this in both OS? Is the computer new or upgraded? If it only
happens in Linux:

Does your whole computer restart or just X-Windows?

Are you running a binary video driver? Either way, try switching to a
different one.

If the crashes only happen when you are surfing, try switching web browsers.

Have you checked your log files to see if there are any clues?

If your problems are in both OS, try the following:

First, download and run the latest memtest+ (http://www.memtest.org/).
This will of course test your memory. You would probably want to leave it
running for 24 hours or more.

Second, it would be good to have a CPU/north bridge/GPU temperature
monitor. Then run prime95 (http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm) and run
the torture test. This will push your CPU pretty hard. It will generate
a lot of heat. The idea being, if you have a heat problem, this will make
it happen (then you know what to fix). This should not take longer than
4-6 hours of testing.

Third, run a video benchmark like PC Mark or Quake time demo. The idea
here is to push your GPU and see if it has a heat problem. This one
should happen pretty quickly. I would say it should lock up in under an
hour if this is the issue but give it 2 just to be safe.

Anyway, some things to try. Obviously, more information and more testing
is required.
