As a rule I have heard that systems with more than a GB of RAM can have 
a speed advantage on x86_64 but for your usage I don't think it's worth 
the trouble yet.

If you still want to do so the 32 bit plugins on 64 bit browser problem 
can be solved by either installing the 32 bit browser or nspluginwrapper 
which is under review at
