given that the OP is asking, I would think that would be a much better
option for him since the rescue CD will automatically find the
partitions and set them up in /mnt/sysimage for him and thus, the steps
I outlined will work.

Otherwise, he will have to find the partitions, create the mount
point(s), mount them, chroot them and that is a lot more work.
