The specific current situation aside for a moment. As a Board member,
I am interested in thinking about a better mechanism of communication
of anything hoped to be seen by the entire community. Is the annouce
list the best thing we can do? Or is it just the best thing we can do
right now given our current tools? Nothing's ever perfect but their
maybe room to try something new with regard to communication
mechanisms... if there are people willing to put the effort in to
build it.

I do not want to go into this too deeply until the current situation
has been resolved. I do not want to be a distraction. But I think this
is an area where someone could step up and provide some new code to
make communicating important announcements easier. Once the current
situation is over, I will be making an effort to facilitate a
discussion concerning some of the ideas I've heard thrown around for
better communication mechanisms and looking for contributors to take
up the challenge and write the code to implement the concepts which
survive.
