Preupgrade F-8 to F-10: a short saga

Well, I had to use Knoppix or something like it
to get into the machine at all,
so I am not sure editing the grub entry would have been any easier.
Preupgrade, incidentally, removed all grub entries
except its own and Windows XP;
it almost seems prejudiced against Linux.
