F8 can't start X

vesa worked. I started X and tried to change the display settings. I
could change the monitor but it would not accept the savage driver.
Then I rebooted and it loaded the savage driver.

As it is booting to a terminal, my problem now is to find how to make
it boot to the gdm greeter.
