gallery2: problem after update (Fedora 7)

I recently updated gallery2 (during "yum update") to gallery2-2.2.4-2.fc7
(on a computer running Fedora 7)
and now it has ceased to work -
going to http://<my website>/gallery2/main.php
brings up a blank page.

I have gone through the 6 steps in the upgrade wizard
(http://<my website>/gallery2/upgrade/)
and no errors are reported.

I wonder if anyone else has had this experience,
and if so how you solved the problem?

Any advice or suggestions gratefully received.
