Hi All,
I kindly ask for your help!
I have a Core2Duo CPU and NVidia 8600GT-based video adapter on my
MythTV frontend-only machine.
I'd like to install the latest nvidia driver using yum and atrpms.
When I do a 'yum install nvidia-graphics', I get this:
=============================================================================
Package Arch Version Repository Size
=============================================================================
Installing:
nvidia-graphics i386 2:169.07-23 atrpms 2.9 k
Removing:
kernel i686 2.6.23.1-10.fc7 installed 44 M
Installing for dependencies:
kernel i586 2.6.23.12-52.fc7 updates 16 M
nvidia-graphics-devices noarch 1.0-5.fc7 atrpms 2.8 k
nvidia-graphics-helpers i386 0.0.22-23.fc7 atrpms 5.5 k
nvidia-graphics169.07 i386 1:169.07-94.fc7 atrpms 1.9 M
nvidia-graphics169.07-kmdl-2.6.23.12-52.fc7 i586 1:169.07-94.fc7 atrpms 2.6 M
nvidia-graphics169.07-libs i386 1:169.07-94.fc7 atrpms 5.0 M
Transaction Summary

Install 7 Package(s)
Update 0 Package(s)
Remove 1 Package(s)
Total download size: 25 M
Is this ok [y/N]:
I got a bit confiused, as yum wants to remove i686 kernel and
update it with the i586 one. So I decided not to continue with the
installation. Then I tried to run 'yum update' without installing the
new driver and I got the following error:
--> Processing Dependency: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.23.8-34.fc7 for package: fuse-kmdl-2.6.23.8-34.fc7
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Missing Dependency: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.23.8-34.fc7 is needed by package fuse-kmdl-2.6.23.8-34.fc7
So I seem to stuck with no new nvidia driver and no updates.
Of course I can download and compile the driver from NVidia web site.
But I'd like to use yum to have it done more or less automatically,
and I'd like my updates to work...
Could you please point me to the right direction? I'm really lost with
these dependency problems...
# uname -a
Linux frontend1 2.6.23.8-34.fc7 #1 SMP Thu Nov 22 23:05:33 EST 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Thanks!
