This is true - the edits done at the Grub prompt, or made to 
individual lines in the menu from within Grub are only temporary. 
This lets you handle problems when you need to things one time only. 
Things like booting into the single user mode, changing the root 
directory, or booting from a disk that is not normally attached.

This has nothing to do with the OPs problem. But don't let that 
bother you - it was a good thought.
