Why do you single out the GPL?  Why do you *think* it's any different
from any of the other Free Software licenses, or even non-Free
Software licenses, in this regard?

Enforcing copyrights is a pain, and that's probably for the better.
They're not meant to advance the interests of authors, they never
were.  They're meant to advance the interests of society.
