/var/log/dirsvr/slapd-hostname/errors just shows

the log file in /tmp doesn't seem to be any help either.

I've already uninstalled, and did
    ]# rm -fr /etc/dirsrv /var/lock/dirsrv /var/run/dirsrv /var/log/dirmngr

reinstalled -- same issue.

I'm really lost on this. I was hoping to avoid OpenLDAP, but I'm running out of time.

Hot diggity!!! Found an answer:

http://blog.adslweb.net/serendipity/article/244/Fedora-directory-server

I'm assuming I properly chown'd to nobody.nobody -- lemme know if this is wrong. It does seem to have worked. I stress the word "seem" though.
