Because they want to own you, and because they don't want you to know
what they're doing...  It's not just that they might be doing unwanted
things, they *are*.

It's nearly always the case that companies do secretive things to get
away with doing something they don't want you to know about, not just
maintaining trade secrets.  It's not a conspiracy theory, they've
already been caught out.
