I hate the bong

In F11, gnome plays an alert sound when an application flashes its window, a 
visual bell. The problem is that the gnome plays the alert sound about 1.5 
seconds later. It's annoying as heck, and I can't find a way to turn it off, 
except to turn off all sound effects.

It's annoying.
