samba shares unmountable by user

Do you have a /usr/share/gvfs/mounts/smb.mount (provided by the
gvfs-smb package?)

Possibly this doesn't work if you're not running a Gnome desktop - it
does require Fuse, gfvsd and probably DBus running.
