No.  It just means that if it fails within 3 years you'll get a free
replacement.  :-)

FWIW, one of my systems has a Samsung that has been spinning now for
more than 4 years.

For home use I generally construct my own system so I have full control.

In the past, when working on major projects, we often order systems "in
bulk" and HP and a few other vendords (at least here in Asia) would be
"happy" to let us specify the drive maker.  The price could be higher
when we did that.
