In my understanding, the copyright does not cover how a font face look, 
only the implementation, the "program" (the specific TTF file)  - 
http://www.fsf.org/blogs/licensing/20050425novalis

So implementing something which looks like that font should be OK. Here 
is an *ugly* and unpolished start: 
http://fedora.nicubunu.ro/artwork/logo/fedora_font.svg (it does not look 
extremely bad at small resolutions). With a few days of work it should 
be possible to create something acceptable for screen (not print) usage.
