Name        : bsf
Product     : Fedora 11
Version     : 2.4.0
Release     : 3.fc11
URL         : http://jakarta.apache.org/bsf/
Summary     : Bean Scripting Framework
Description :
Bean Scripting Framework (BSF) is a set of Java classes which provides
scripting language support within Java applications, and access to Java
objects and methods from scripting languages. BSF allows one to write
JSPs in languages other than Java while providing access to the Java
class library. In addition, BSF permits any Java application to be
implemented in part (or dynamically extended) by a language that is
embedded within it. This is achieved by providing an API that permits
calling scripting language engines from within Java, as well as an
object registry that exposes Java objects to these scripting language
engines.

BSF supports several scripting languages currently:
* Javascript (using Rhino ECMAScript, from the Mozilla project)
* Python (using either Jython or JPython)
* Tcl (using Jacl)
* NetRexx (an extension of the IBM REXX scripting language in Java)
* XSLT Stylesheets (as a component of Apache XML project's Xalan and
Xerces)

In addition, the following languages are supported with their own BSF
engines:
* Java (using BeanShell, from the BeanShell project)
* JRuby
* JudoScript

Update Information:

Update to latest stable upstream release 2.4.0. This also adds jython support *
can be used as an extension package to Java by placing it into "jre/lib/ext"
[using the thread's context classloader, ie. the result of
'Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader()'] *       removed experimental
'DebugLog' class, superceded by commons-logging and log4j * removed
'org.apache.bsf.engines.activescript.*', as it is not supported anymore (stems
from the original IBM codebase, but would need native Windows code to bridge
OLE/ActiveX) *       removed 'org.apache.bsf.engines.jpython', as it is
superceded by the newer 'org.apache.bsf.engines.jython' *
'org.apache.bsf.BSFMain.java': new method "public String getVersion()", returns
string in the form of a dewey decimal number 'abc' (three levels, each between 0
and 9) 'abc.yyyymmdd', 'yyyy' four digit year, 'mm' two digit month, 'dd' two
digit day; e.g. '240.20060925' stands for: BSF version 2.4.0 as of 2006-09-25 *
new class 'org.apache.bsf.utils.BSFEventProcessorReturningEventInfos' *
'org.apache.bsf.utils.EngineUtils.java': added the method
'addEventListenerReturningEventInfos(...)'
