The different config files are necessary because mip6d only supports a few
options to be set via command arguments, that's the reason for adding the check
for sysconfig to allow passing on arguments to mip6d directly. An empty
mip6d.conf is what should be done if the node is a client node which should be
the default.

Nevertheless I agree with all your recommendations and will make those changes.
