I always deactivate selinux on my systems. That is why I have
never noticed the problem.

Why not? Because of the selinux problem or because of the ATI driver?
I only have nvidia cards running the proprietary driver.

I am running blender 2.49 just fine with yafaray on F10 x86_64, but I
cannot say if version 2.49 is stable enough (despite of yafaray).
