i've been running it as my desktop for almost a month and haven't experienced ANY of the problems you've mentioned. i'd say it's your install. do you have a bunch of RH 9 packages mixed with fedora packages? i'd install apt and do an 'apt-get upgrade' and see if it straightens out.
