A plea to the persistent top posters.

Besides, it has been argued that placing the cursor at the top is better
since it makes easier to trim down the quoted text on your way down, that
one should do most times anyway.

Otherwise, some people will just quote everything and add their answer at
the end that, arguably, is even worse.

I think most people agree that either use is occasionally right, but
that what is an absolute no-no is to contribute to a cascade of messages,
each longer than the precedent and each being longer and longer with lower
and lower new content to quotation ratio.

Old timers either learned it this way or they have come to appreciate the
style with time.  It is newbies that find it hard.  Personally, I prefer
to have the cursor left at top.
