Smart quoting helps this out quite a bit. It's a shame that
smartquoting isn't available in more email clients.
Smart quoting is when you can highlight a portion of text in the
original message, hit reply, and only the highlighted part of the
message gets quoted. It's amazingly easy to use/get used to, and once
you've been using it for a while, it's a nightmare to give up.
Kmail has this functionality, as well as Sylpheed. As for others....
