Any suggestions over a good working File browser

That is suprisingly slow. 

For comparison a 533Mhz VIA C3 (About Celeron 400 equivalent) with 512Mb
of RAM and a laptop drive takes 26 seconds from cold (mostly reading the
disk time) and 6.5 seconds from warm

(FC2 2.6.6-1.427 kernel for i586)
