With all of the different variables and sucesses achieved, with this 
problem, I am not too sure which factor is causing this.
DMA or not adding -dao, adding padding, loading drivers before running 
mediacheck, etc.

Someone added to the bug report that they burned the disks on XP using 
one of the more popular burning software programs and still had this error.

I haven't tried to burn another CD yet, to test cdrecord, but some of 
the mediacheck failed discs I burned were at 2X. (Installing from them 
worked though)

Which burning software did you use? If using cdrecord, what options did 
you pass to the program?

Coasters and "suspected coasters" are pretty high at present. :-)
