It's built with wxWidgets/GTK+ (v1.x) without Unicode support per upstream
requirement. wxWidgets/GTK2 builds suffer from various problems, such as
crashes, layout weirdness or unexpected behaviour. The next stable release
of Audacity (v1.3.0 is a development beta version) comes with better 
support for wxGTK2.
