Though I figured up2date would no longer work. I tried it for nostalgic 
reference. I get similar errors when launching up2date.
Try pirut for new packages and pup for upgrading the system. I like both 
programs and the information and usability is close to a working up2date 
program (pup). Of course pirut is much better working than s-c-packages 
or whatever the older new program installer/remover was called.
