strange rawhide install situation - not sure what is messed up

I got the rawhide/development snapshot for today (2006-07-19) to do
an install (yeah! bz 199015)

BUT

gnome fails to start (KDE does start), 
firstboot won't start (X Server failed to start),
and audit daemon won't start.

There are scads of SELinux avc's for things (which I don't fully
comprehend.)

It seems that the xorg-conf file is not "right" in some way about the
monitor settings, and firstboot --debug won't load the display module.

Not sure how to proceed.
