weirdness going from runlevel 5 to 3

I did some beating on the problem.  It looks like backing out Friday's 
updates to plymouth makes the problem go away.  In BZ I changed the 
component to plymouth, instead of initscripts.

Friday's update was plymouth-0.7.0-0.2009.03.10.3.
The previous version was plymouth-0.7.0-0.2009.03.10.2.
