you can also vacuum the sqlite DBs and I've found that can help FF
perf quite a bit. I run the following script when FF is not running.

#/bin/bash
for f in ~/.mozilla/firefox/*/*.sqlite; do sqlite3 $f 'VACUUM;'; done
