Firefox closed by itself just after it starts........

Also, start in safe mode ("firefox -safe-mode"), which disables all
extensions. If it doesn't crash, the problem is with an extension. You
then get to re-enable them selectively to discover which one :-)

You might also want to look in /var/log/messages.
